Capt. Herschel L. Plowman

Information on Capt. Herschel L. Plowman was obtained from past Hoist articles. as his official biography was not on record in the Navy archives.

Capt. Plowman was from Oldham, S.D. and attended South Dakota State University for one year. He graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. In May, 1954, he entered the Navy as a Naval Aviation Cadet. He was commissioned an ensign and designated a Naval Aviator in 1955.

During his career, he served as commanding officer of Navy Recruiting District San Diego from 1977 to 1978. He was also commander, Navy Recruiting Area One in Scotia, N.Y. and responsible for officer and enlisted recruiting in the ten northeastern states.

Following his tour at Navy Recruiting Area One, he became chief of staff for NTC from October, 1981 to June, 1983. He served as commanding officer of Navy Recruiting District San Diego from 1977 to 1978. Capt. Plowman became center commander on June 19, 1983.
