I do not know for certain how to find the e-mail lists for those in the service who might wish contact/mail to give a smile to their day. I fully support anyone fulfilling their honor by defending our country. I have been a deputy and have some awareness of their life and would like to have a few individuals to correspond with and let them know there are people who appreciate them.

My dad served on the USS Karney DD432 during WW2. My mom is interested in finding material on that ship. My dad passed away at age 51 and my mom always kept his navy items for all to see. She has a photo of the ship but so faded. If anyone can help me find a website or place where I can replace that photo for my mom I'd appreciate it. Thank you, Diane M. Tilton daughter of a proud Navy Man

I am so proud of the Navy. It is just great to be an American and have the military that we have. I am so glad to see the President finally do something to get some raises and housing for our guys and their families, it is long overdue. It will always bring tears to my eyes to watch the ships come in to port. I spent my childhood watching for my dad down at the docks. It still makes me cry with pride. When I was a child, I didn't understand why my dad was so proud of the Navy, but now I do. I love all you guys and I thank you for what you have done for your country.

I am compiling letters my father wrote during WWII. I found that it was difficult to keep track of the uniforms he referred to. I came upon this site and found it to be very informative and useful in my search for answers. My father was stationed at San Diego Naval Base for further training on LCS(L). Thank you for developing this site and the preservation of the San Diego Navy Base. Keep up the great work and am looking forward to new items.

I must have delivered a comment that was taken the wrong way by some. It wasn't my intent to irritate, agitate, or instigate any serviceman from the Navy. I originally thought that this was a site for anyone that went through boot camp in San Diego in 1969. I went through on the Marine Corps side in 1969. Well, my comments must have been taken the wrong way. Didn't mean any harm. Semper Fi, Mac!

I LIKE THE SITE AND ALL THAT WHICH YOU HAVE ON IT WHILE AT THE SAME TIME TENDS TO HELP GUYS [LIKE MYSELF] REFLECT UPON PRECIOUS MEMORIES THAT AT THAT TIME DIDNT EXPRESS ''PRECIOUS'' 'TIL ONE GETS ON IN AGE... Served in the Marines. Went to Boot Camp in October, 1969 in San Diego and graduated in December. I remember that the Navy recruits were right across the quad from us. You sailors would make fun of us, and us Marines would make fun of you. You were taught that all Marines learned was 'how to kill', and we were taught that all sailors learned was 'how to fold clothes.' At any rate, thanks to all of you for serving your country, and thanks for giving me the opportunity to leave some of my comments. Semper Fi!

I was searching on "Dam Neck" in Google and came up with your site. I was an SK3 stationed at FAAWTC, Dam Neck from December, 1963 to November, 1966. I've been looking for some memory aids. I have a couple of aerial maps from the U.S. Geological Survey that are pretty good. I bought a great site index $27.50 from The National Archives that I'm trying to co-ordinate with my USGS maps but I'm having touble! The NA has the map that goes with the site index but they want $110 dollars for it. My wife isn't And I have a book called The Dam Neck Story that has a fragment of a "Welcome Aboard" map. That's what I'd like to get my hands on. Would you know anyone who served at Dam Neck in the sixties who might have one? I'm willing to pay for a copy! So, have a great day! Sincerely, Tom McDade
